The Mekong Tourism Forum 2015 is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam in Danang City, 15-19 June 2015. Under the theme Unlocking the Potential of the Mekong Region via Innovative Partnerships, the event will showcase emerging tourist destinations and trends in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS). The forum will focus on enhancing collaboration between the public and private sectors to develop responsible and sustainable tourism and to protect the natural and cultural heritage of the GMS for future generations.
On June 15th, UNWTO will participate in the Mekong Tourism Marketing Workshop together with PATA, ATTA, GSTC, and Thammasat University. UNWTO will host a workshop on river and ocean cruise tourism based on two UNWTO publications: ASEAN River-based Tourism Development and Sustainable Cruise Tourism Development Strategies: Tackling the Challenges in Itinerary Design in South-East Asia. The workshop aims to provide technical strategies for handling the challenges surrounding tourism product development and carrying-capacity concerns in emerging markets.
