2nd UN Tourism Regional Conference on the Empowerment of Women in Tourism in Asia and the Pacific

Bali, Indonesia | 2-4 May 2024

Women-led Initiatives shaping the future of Inclusive and Sustainable Tourism

The 2nd UN Tourism Regional Conference on the Empowerment of Women in Tourism in Asia and the Pacific will be organized jointly by UN Tourism and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia in collaboration with Bali Tourism Polytechnic. It will take place in Bali, Indonesia from 2-4 May 2024.

Women make up 53% of the tourism workforce in Asia & the Pacific but are concentrated in lower-skilled, lower-paid and informal roles, leaving them with limited access to social protections and vulnerable during times of crisis.

As the global tourism industry undergoes a rapid and widespread recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an urgent need to address the gender inequalities within the sector and facilitate more opportunities for the empowerment of women.

This event provides a platform for some of the leading female voices in tourism in Asia & the Pacific, celebrating their successes and considering ways to dismantle the barriers that hamper women's economic and social empowerment.

The agenda will include dialogue with leaders from both the public and private sectors who are driving social innovation, discussing strategies for the global tourism industry to confront and combat gender inequality.

Scheduled discussions are the following*:

Women's Ministerial Roundtable Discussion

  • "Women in Tourism Industry Leadership: Women in Tourism Industry Leadership: Highlighting the achievements and acknowledging the challenges of women leaders in the tourism sector"
