Inaugurated the UNWTO regional course in Mexico on “Excellence in Tourism Marketing: Social media in the tourism destination”

 

El curso regional de la OMT en México sobre “Excelencia en Marketing Turístico: Los medios sociales en el destino turístico” fue inaugurado el día 5 de septiembre en la ciudad de Mérida (Estado de Yucatán), y contó con la participación de funcionarios de la administración nacional, regional y local de México, así como otros funcionarios de la administración nacional de diversos Estados Miembros de la OMT, los expertos facilitadores del curso David Vicent Gandia y Jorge Gobbi, entre otros.

El acto fue presidido por Lic. Saúl Martín Ancona Salazar, Secretario de Fomento Turístico del Gobierno de Estado de Yucatán, Mtra. María Teresa Solis Trejo, Subsecretaría de Planeación y Política Turística de la Secretaría de Turismo del Gobierno de la República, Sr. Omar Valdez, Director Ejecutivo de la Fundación OMT-Themis, Dr. Emilio Martínez de Velasco, Director Regional de Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología y Mtra. Patricia Domínguez Silva, Directora General del Instituto de Competitividad Turística de la Secretaría de Turismo del Gobierno de la República quienes señalaron la importancia de la innovación en el diseño de marketing turístico, en el marco de la gestión de los medios sociales en los destinos turísticos.

El curso, que transcurrirá hasta el próximo día 9 de septiembre en la ciudad de Mérida, tiene por objetivo contribuir a la mejora de la calidad, sostenibilidad y competitividad de los destinos turísticos locales mediante el intercambio de conocimientos, herramientas, habilidades y experiencias que permitan a los tomadores de decisiones diseñar, crear y gestionar su propio sistema de gestión turística, aprovechando al máximo las oportunidades que nos brindan las redes sociales.

Para alcanzar dicho objetivo, los participantes contarán con el liderazgo académico de los expertos facilitadores David Vicent Gandia y Jorge Gobbi, quienes aplicarán una metodología teórico-práctica apoyada en herramientas de interacción académica como presentaciones, discusiones y foros, debates, trabajos en grupo, estudios de casos y actividades prácticas. En esta ocasión dichas actividades irán enfocadas principalmente a la temática de gestión de los medios sociales en el destino turístico y al diseño de marketing turístico en dichos destinos.

Así, durante la jornada de trabajo del día 7 de septiembre, los participantes desarrollarán su jornada académica distribuidos en varios destinos del Estado de Yucatán donde podrán recoger información de primera mano valiosa para la elaboración de los trabajos académicos que serán presentados el último día del curso, contribuyendo así a la aplicación práctica de los contenidos abordados durante la impartición del curso.

MISSION

The Tourism and Events Observatory of the city of São Paulo (OTE), the research and market intelligence center of São Paulo Turismo (SPTuris) was created in 2005 with the aim of analyze the behavior of tourism and the events segment in the capital of São Paulo. 

CURRENT MONITORING PROCESSES

OTE has successfully collected data related to the distribution and consumption of natural resources, as well as waste collection. These data are important for studies of the impact of tourism on water, energy and waste recycling systems. The data is obtained from three sources of information, Energy distribution monitoring data from ENEL (local electricity distributor), Recyclable and non-recyclable waste collected monitoring data by the Executive Secretariat for Urban Cleaning (SELIMP), linked to the Municipal Secretariat of Subprefectures (SMSUB),  and water consumption and sewage collection according to data from Sabesp, responsible for water supply, sewage collection and treatment.

El Salvador and Honduras to host UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas in 2017

El Salvador and Honduras will be the host countries of the 61st meeting of the Regional Commission for the Americas of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).  The decision was one of the main conclusions of the 60th Regional meeting, which concluded recently in Havana, Cuba.

 

The 2017 meeting will take place in El Salvador and Honduras, and constitutes the first time in the history of the Organization that it is being held with a dual-site format. The Salvadoran capital will host the meetings on Organization matters, while the technical seminar that is traditionally held in the framework of the Commission meeting will be held in the Honduran city of Roatán.

The sixtieth edition of the meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas, held over the past days in Havana, took place in the context of the Tourism Fair of Havana, FITCUBA 2017. The meeting was attended by 130 representatives from 29 countries, including seventeen ministers.

The challenges and opportunities of the tourism sector in the Americas and the programme of work of the UNWTO in the region were the main topics discussed at the different sessions. The countries attending the meeting issued a joint statement of support for Ecuador as an expression of solidarity in the face of the tragic consequences of the earthquake that hit the country in late April.

Ministers and high representatives of UNWTO Members States in the Americas meeting in Havana, Cuba, on the occasion of the 60th meeting of the UNWTO Commission for the Americas, have express their full support to Ecuador following the tragic earthquake that struck Ecuador’s central coast on 16 April 2016. 

In a joint Statement, they stressed that “Ecuador is a tourism success story; a country where tourism supports many livelihoods” and committed to “work, alongside UNWTO, to support Ecuador with the planning process for the rehabilitation of a sustainable tourism offer on the Coast of Ecuador and the promotion of tourism to the region”.

Furthermore, participants expressed their full confidence in Ecuador’s recovery and tourism development saying that “Ecuador will continue to shine as an increasingly important tourism destination in the Americas and that tourism will continue to play a vital role in advancing the country’s development”.
