Position: Tourism Education Expert
Location: Homebase and Middle East
Duration: 6 months
Responsibilities
The Tourism Education Expert will be responsible for leading the Quality Improvement in Tourism Education Project for one country in the Middle East. The responsibilities of this position will be on two main areas:
1- Quality assessment and certification:
- Prepare a comprehensive inventory of all tourism education and training programmes available in the country
- Organize and deliver (together with other experts) a workshop on the UNWTO.TedQual Methodology
- Support education and training institutions participating in the process
- Organize the training and provide mentoring sessions for 2 candidates from the country on the programme methodology, so they can be part of the international group of TedQual Auditors once this process is finished
- Prepare a situation report with detailed information on each education and training programme, quality gaps, as well as an improvement plan based on training and mentoring activities
- Coordinate the work of external UNWTO.TedQual Auditors
- Prepare a recommendation with a list of suggested new education or training programmes needed in the country
- Overall Quality follow-up
- Preparing status reports by gathering, analyzing, and summarizing relevant information.
- Conducting post-project evaluation and identifying successful and unsuccessful project elements.
- Prepare a final report, evaluating the overall activity and proposing adjustments for future editions of this programme
- Carry out any other project-related duties as required by the project.
2- Tourism Faculty Development:
- Design an eight modules training structure for two specific audiences: (1) Tourism and Hospitality Educators and Trainers at universities and colleges to improve their teaching and training performance, and (2) Department Heads and college deans to enhance their administrative skills in managing tourism academic programmes.
- Coordinate the delivery of the training modules
- Design and supervise final evaluation test
- Propose follow up activities
- Prepare a final report, evaluating the overall activity and proposing adjustments for future editions of this programme
- Carry out any other project-related duties as required by the project.
Qualifications
The Expert will have at least 15 years of work experience in the area of tourism human resources and a proven track record in leading projects and project teams. Deep understanding of tourism human capital development issues in the MENA Region as well as internationally are a must. Fluency and report writing skills in English are essential.
