UNWTO Workshop for Inbound Tour Operators

Since the Silk Road Programme was launched in 2010, thousands of delegates have gained knowledge and expertise by participating in UNWTO Silk Road conferences and seminars.
In the framework of the capacity builing pillar of the Programme the UNWTO Silk Road has run two capacity building training workshops for the inbound tour operators.
The workshops were organized in the collaboration with the Great Southern Touring Route Australia and Chinese Friendly company in the framework of the International Conference “1 000 years of Almaty on the Silk Road: prospects for tourism”. The workshops were hosted by the of Tourism and Foreign Affairs department of the city of Almaty
The first 4-hour workshop was delivered by Mr. Roger Grant, Director of the Great Southern Touring Route. It was designed to empower inbound Almaty-Bishkek tour operators to better understand, engage and work with the international travel trade.
The second workshop, led by Dr. Kurt Grötsch, founder and CEO of Chinese Friendly International enterprise, shared insights on how to engage and successfully attract the Chinese travelers. By focusing on practical tools and case-studies, this workshop provided a coherent understanding of the indispensable Chinese tourism market and set the basics of understanding of what “experience engineering” for Chinese is.
