Single African Aviation Transport Market (SAATM) Airshow in Banjul
The recent participation of Mrs Lydia Bebe Kum, Officer at the UN Tourism, in the Single Air Transport Market Pilot Implementation Project (SAATM-PIP) Coalition Roadshow in Banjul, Gambia, held on 13 and 14 March 2024 marks a significant step towards enhancing intra-Africa travel, tourism and trade.
By providing UN Tourism perspective, the official stressed the value of a joint agenda on tourism and air connectivity to boost economic growth, jobs, investments in the region, amidst esteemed officials including Mrs. Adeyemi Adefunke, Secretary-General of the African Civil Aviation Commission and H.E. Mr Ebrima Sillah, Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure of the Gambia.
The key objective of the meeting was to strategize the rollout of SAATM across the six clusters, aiming at liberalizing air transport and tackle existing impediments such as poor connectivity and high travel costs. This event, following the signing of a memorandum of Understanding between AFCAC and UN Tourism, underscores a joint commitment to fostering tourism and air connectivity for inclusive growth in Africa.
