Kenya, elected Chair of the Committee on Tourism and Competitiveness (2023-2027)
The Committee on Tourism and Competitiveness convened in its 14th Meeting on 23 January 2024 at UN Tourism Headquarters in Madrid, Spain, on the sidelines of FITUR 2024.
This was the first meeting of the Committee in its current composition (2023-2027). The meeting served to present the programme of work of the Committee for the next two years in line with the priorities identified by the Member States and presented in the 25th General Assembly on 16-20 October 2023 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Governance and effective policies to progress tourism competitiveness were on the agenda and the identification of the key factors that define tourism competitiveness, among other topics, were discussed. During the meeting, Kenya and Sri Lanka were elected as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Committee, respectively. Additionally, Zambia is also a member of the CTC and, along with Kenya, they both represent the region of Africa in this Committee.
