Economic Outlook

Namibia has settled its position as a nation with steady economic growth and stability. In 2024, the country recorded GDP growth of 3.1%, which is projected to rise to 4.2% in 2025. This growth is underpinned by controlled inflation rates of 4.6% and a robust monetary system. Namibia’s stable macroeconomic environment offers confidence to both domestic and foreign investors looking to explore opportunities in various sectors.

FDI Performance

Namibia has experienced remarkable growth in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), with inflows reaching USD 2.61 billion in 2023—a significant increase from USD 1.06 billion in 2022. Major contributors to FDI include China (29.6%), South Africa (22.4%), the United Kingdom (9.4%), and Mauritius (6.8%). While traditionally reliant on mining, Namibia is diversifying its investment portfolio to include tourism, agriculture, renewable energy, and financial services. This diversification strategy signals Namibia’s commitment to broadening its economic base and creating sustainable growth opportunities.

Value Proposition

Namibia offers a compelling value proposition for investors through its world-class infrastructure, strategic geographic location, and pro-business policies. The country’s exceptional road network, strategic ports at Walvis Bay and Lüderitz, and international air connectivity, makes it a reliable trade and investment hub in Sub-Saharan Africa. As a member of SADC and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Namibia provides access to a market of over one billion people, facilitating regional trade flows.

Green Investments Outlook

Namibia is emerging as a leader in green investments in Africa, particularly in renewable energy. Ranking second-best for energy transition in Sub-Saharan Africa and third across the continent, Namibia boasts substantial potential in solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects.

The nation is focused on developing clean energy exports to international markets while advancing domestic renewable energy initiatives. These endeavors strengthen Namibia’s reputation as a pioneer in Africa’s energy transformation and solidify its role in global sustainability efforts.

With over 20 national parks and reserves—including iconic destinations like Etosha National Park and the Namib Desert—Namibia provides unmatched opportunities for eco-tourism investments. The government actively promotes projects such as luxury eco-lodges, cultural tourism villages, cruise tourism expansion, and film tourism initiatives that leverage Namibia’s globally recognized landscapes.

Tourism Competitive Outlook

Namibia’s competitive edge lies in its unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and strong governance.

The tourism sector contributed 6.9% to GDP, generating USD 348 million in international tourism receipts in 2023. The country welcomed 863,872 international visitors in 2023—an 87.4% increase from 2022—capitalizing on long-stay travel demand and promoting investment opportunities in luxury eco-lodges, cultural tourism, and adventure travel.

Additionally, Namibia’s rapidly growing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE) sector highlights its ambition to attract business travelers. New convention centers, premium hotels, and a dedicated National Convention Bureau strengthen Namibia’s position as a competitive destination for corporate tourism.

Namibia stands as a beacon of opportunity for investors seeking sustainable growth, unmatched landscapes, and a supportive business environment. Its focus on green investments, infrastructure development, tourism expansion, and regional trade integration makes it an ideal destination for global investment.
