The World Tourism Organization and the Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero join forces to foster innovation in the tourism sector

Madrid, Spain – 8 August 2018 - The objective of both organizations is to cooperate closely on issues of mutual interest to achieve shared objectives
The World Tourism Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations that is the leading public international organization in the field of tourism, and the Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero, have joined forces to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the tourism sector and to promote the digital transformation of tourism destinations, by working jointly on issues of mutual interest, in order to achieve the objectives they share. The goal is to enhance interactions between the UNWTO and the ITH.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero (ITH) will cooperate in the execution of projects in the areas of digital transformation, sustainability and smart destinations.
The Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero supports the objectives of the UNWTO, and the World Tourism Organization, for its part, recognizes the significant contribution that the private sector can make to its strategic objectives and actively promotes cooperation with private sector actors.
About the UNWTO
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is an international organization created in 1974 that aims to promote tourism as a vehicle for sustainable development. Formally linked to the United Nations since 1976 and a UN specialized agency since 2004, it has its headquarters in Madrid, Spain. Its membership consists of 158 Member States, 6 territories and more than 500 Affiliate Members representing the private sector, educational institutions, tourism associations and local tourism authorities.
About ITH
ITH is the hotel sector’s response to the challenges that technological advances pose for entrepreneurs in the tourism industry. Created 14 years ago, this innovation centre, attached to the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (CEHAT), has as its mission to promote the use of new technologies and management systems that contribute to improving the competitiveness, profitability, quality, efficiency and sustainability of companies linked to the hotel and tourism industry.
