PR No.: PR 18057
Madrid, Spain, 7 August 2018 – The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) expresses its solidarity with the victims of the earthquake that struck Lombok, Indonesia. On behalf of its Member States, private sector and academia partners representing the global tourism sector, UNWTO offers to the people and to the Government of Indonesia its deepest condolences.
UNWTO extends its sympathy to Indonesia, especially to the victims' families, hoping that the areas and communities damaged by the earthquake recover quickly.
“We stand by the Republic of Indonesia in these difficult times and are willing to collaborate, through the means and resources available to us, in the efforts leading to the recovery of the affected areas”, said Mr. Pololikashvili.
Indonesia has been a UNWTO member since 1975, and is one of the Asian countries that has most clearly linked economic development with the promotion of sustainable tourism. Indonesia holds the chairmanship of the UNWTO Commission for East Asia and the Pacific until 2019.
