United in Strength! United in Spirit! The countdown to the 3rd edition of the World Nomad Games has begun!
On 2 September 2018, the third edition of the World Nomad Games will commence, with the opening ceremony to take place in Cholpon-Ata, a resort town on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan.
Held under the slogan “United in Strength! United in Spirit”, 3000 athletes from 77 countries will compete within 37 different nomadic sport categories. Following the success of the previous two editions in 2012 and 2014, the upcoming games are expected to be the biggest-to-date, and constitute an overarching celebration of nomadic culture. Alongside the sporting event, the World Nomad Games will feature an international cultural festival celebrating the nomadic lifestyle, including traditional music, dances, fashion and handicrafts, and a scientific forum focused on disseminating the widespread contributions made by nomadic civilizations throughout history.
Clearly recognizing nomadic heritage as a powerful unifying element along the historic Silk Road routes, UNWTO’s Silk Road department is pleased to support an event initiated by the Kyrgyz government in 2012 with the explicit aim of contributing to global peace, prosperity and fruitful exchange.
