Call for participation UN Tourism Youth Photo Contest

Zimbabwe´s gastronomy, rich and diverse in ingredients, flavors and traditions, stands as a pivotal asset for preserving cultural heritage and propelling inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development at the national level and beyond. The UN Tourism "A Journey through Zimbabwe´s Gastronomy" Youth Photo Contest celebrates the nation’s culinary tapestry through the art of photography, while promoting the destination and stimulating gastronomy tourism. By highlighting the country’s traditional dishes, cultural heritage, and unique culinary techniques, this platform serves not only to raise awareness but also to inspire and invite locals and travelers to discover and immerse themselves in Zimbabwe’s cultural and culinary wonders. Open to young amateurs, the photo contest presents an exceptional opportunity for Zimbabwean communities to express their perspective and capture the essence of Zimbabwe's gastronomic heritage through the lens of their cameras.

Winners' Announcement at the First UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Photo Categories:  

  1.  Gastronomic Artistry: This category celebrates the aesthetics and creativity of food.
    E.g.: Restaurant dishes, street food plates, or homemade delights.
  2. Food Culture and Community: This category showcases the role of food in bringing people together.
    E.g.: Communal or family meals, food festivals, farmers markets, or cultural gatherings. 

Winners and Prizes: 

Two prizes per category (14-17 and 18-24 years old): 

  • An invitation to participate in the First UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, 26 to 28 July 2024. 
  • A recognition ceremony and a certificate of achievement during the Forum. 
  • High exposure and visibility, including on UN Tourism communication and social media platforms.   

Participation Criteria: 

  • Young amateur photographers residing in Zimbabwe (14-24 years old); 
  • Minors must complete a form and provide written consent from their legal representative(s) to participate; 
  • Photos must be taken in Zimbabwe; 
  • Maximum three photos per category and per participant; 
  • Photos must be submitted with a title, date shot, location, descriptive caption on the significance or context of the photo (maximum 100 words), and details of the photographer. 
  • Image files should be 7 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG, JPG, or PNG format, must have a capture resolution of 1600x1200 pixels, and can be in portrait or landscape orientation.  
  • Entries will only be accepted in digital format and must not be digitally enhanced or manipulated in any way. 
  • Photos that have been published or won awards in other photographic contests will not be considered.
