The UN Tourism "International Seminars on Tourism Law" represent a prestigious platform that, every year, brings together leading experts, policy makers, academics, and practitioners from around the world to discuss and deliberate on the latest developments and challenges in the field of tourism law.

Last year, the first edition of the International Tourism Law Seminar was held in Salamanca, Spain, on the "International Code for the Protection of Tourists", a key normative instrument, developed by UN Tourism during the pandemic, for the protection of international tourists in emergencies and of the rights of tourists as consumers in the post-COVID-19 world.

Following the success of the first edition, we are planning to organize the second edition of the International Seminar on Tourism Law, in in Córdoba, Argentina, from 26 to 28 November 2024, in collaboration with the Agencia Córdoba Turismo, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba and Universidad Siglo 21.

The Seminar will focus this year on the theme "Tourism Law: Sustainability and Universal Accessibility". Its main objective is to discuss and analyse the legal issues related to sustainability Tourism Law in its economic, environmental, and social dimensions, as well as in the field of universal accessibility, as a transversal element. The aim is to:

  • Offer a global legal perspective on sustainable and accessible tourism, addressing the main normative, legal, and regulatory challenges in the economic, social and environmental fields.
  • Provide governments with the legal tools and legal knowledge necessary to recognise and take advantage of the opportunities offered by Tourism Law for the creation of legal frameworks aimed at sustainable and accessible tourism development at national, regional, and international level.
  • Encourage the adoption of good practices and the exchange of lessons learned on sustainability and universal accessibility in tourism legislation, promoting the development of legal regimes that strike the right balance between its three economic, environmental, and social dimensions.
  • Provide legal support and guidance to stakeholders involved in the tourism value chain, both from the public and private sector, ensuring sustainable and inclusive tourism growth in the long term.

As part of the Program of Work 2024-2025, the organization of the Seminar aligns with UN Tourism's programmatic priority 5 "build better and strong institutions: tourism policy, governance and resilience" and, in particular, with the line of action 5.A.1 concerning the promotion of "Tourism and Law" activities aimed at "developing and harmonizing legal, normative and regulatory frameworks, offering Members conceptually new governance and management models, as well as legal and regulatory frameworks which are key to re-think and re-orient tourism legislation and policy".
