1st Regional Conference on Women's Empowerment in Tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean

21 and 22 October 2024, Asuncion, Paraguay

1st Regional Conference on Women's Empowerment in Tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean will be organized jointly by UN Tourism and the National Secretariat of Tourism of Paraguay (SENATUR). It will take place in Asunción on 21-22 October 2024.

Women make up 54% of the tourism workforce at a global level but are concentrated in lower-skilled, lower-paid and informal roles, leaving them with limited access to social protections and vulnerable during times of crisis.

As the global tourism industry undergoes a rapid and widespread recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an urgent need to address the gender inequalities within the sector and facilitate more opportunities for the empowerment of women.

This event provides a platform for some of the leading female voices in tourism in the Americas, celebrating their successes and considering ways to dismantle the barriers that hamper women's economic and social empowerment.

The agenda will include dialogue with leaders from both the public and private sectors who are driving social innovation, discussing strategies for the global tourism industry to confront and combat gender inequality.
