Online | Zoom | 10:00-11:00 (CET) / 16:00-17:00 (CEST)
The world continues to face many challenges and multiple health, natural and man-made crisis – putting a clear danger to the livelihoods and wellbeing of people and the planet.
Tourism, as one of the most resilient sectors can help face and overcome these impacts. In 2023,International tourist arrivals have reached 1.286 billion, recovering 88% of Covid-19 pre-pandemic levels, with growth expected to exceed 2019 figures by 2%. Whereas these numbers reflect positive economic trend of the sector, it is equally important to emphasize the intercultural dialogue, exchanges, and enriching experiences fostered through these tourism activities. Tourism is a key driver for fostering peace and understanding between nations and cultures and can play a vital role in the reconciliation process.
Guided by the UN Tourism Global Code of Ethics for Tourism (GCET), particularly Article 1 on Tourism´s contribution to mutual understanding and respect between peoples and societies, this event aims at exploring the importance and need of cultivating and building peace through the lens of tourism, contributing to enhancing mutual understanding and peacebuilding in the context of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, as well as the GCET.
The Summit of the Future comes at a very opportune moment where Tourism and Peace is the theme of the World Tourism Day, becoming a milestone event demonstrating how the global community can build a better world.
