UNWTO strengthens its cooperation with Tajikistan during the “International Tourism Forum and Exhibition””, held on 9 August 2019 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan
The Forum - with a participation of more than 400 guests from 25 countries - provided an excellent opportunity to present the many tourism destinations of Tajikistan and discuss the state of play of its tourism development. The event was opened by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Davlatali, and by the representative of UNWTO and, took place within the 2019-2021 period of “Rural Development, Tourism and Folk Crafts” proclaimed by the President of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon.
Tajikistan boasts an enormous tourism potential based on its magnificent mountainous landscapes, rich cultural and natural heritage, and welcoming hospitality of its people. UNWTO conveyed its appreciation to the Government of Tajikistan for placing tourism as a top priority in its agenda and acknowledging the powerful role of its tourism sector as a fundamental pillar of Tajikistan’s socio-economic progress that contributes to positioning it as an increasingly attractive tourism destination in Central Asia.
UNWTO was very pleased to witness that within the framework of the event several cooperation agreements were signed between the Committee of Tourism Development of Tajikistan and international tour operators and travel agencies to further enhance tourism cooperation and position Tajikistan in the global tourism map.
