Bosnia and Herzegovina is participating in the UNWTO Students League 

 

No National Tourism Strategy

(Match:Strategy for Development of Tourism in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was developed for 2008 – 2018. In the survey initiated by RDEU in January 2020, BiH’s Focal Point stated that one of the key issues for BiH is lack of adequate legal strategy for tourism development)).

  • UNWTO Can assist in the development of the national strategy of tourism development.

Education & Training

(Match: Strengthening local governance is identified as one of the main challenges for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Training for local tourism workforce (entrepreneurs, tourism guides) is also identified as a need for the country).

  • Support through the UNWTO Academy: UNWTO can support Bosnia and Herzegovina in the development of tourism educational programs (i.e. curricula), along with the delivery of tailor-made trainings (i.e. training for officials)
  • Introduction of UNWTO QUEST Programme : seeks to reinforce quality and excellence in leadership, execution and governance capacities in DMOs.

Enhance the tourism offer of the Country

(Match:Development of new tourism products and attractions, in particular in rural areas and nearby historic sites, is a priority for BiH. Tourism segments of interest include mountain tourism, adventure tourism, health tourism and rural tourism.)

  • Support BiH in the development of tourism segments of interest through capacity building activities or via product development projects (TMIC, TECO)
  • Promotion of Destinations: Support the promotion of BiH through the organization of a Google Masterclass on improving the promotion of destinations through Google Analytics

Rural tourism

(Match: Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the most rural countries in Europe. Around 60% of the population lives in rural areas, whether defined as villages or as scarcely populated municipalities, and only Montenegro, Ireland and Finland have higher share of rural population within Europe (UNDP). The government of BiH has made the development of rural areas a national priority. It has adopted in 2018 a strategic plan for rural development of Bosnia and Herzegovina (2018-2021). Which sets out an Action Plan for the development of rural regions and a better alignment with EU and international standards.)

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina did not submit any applications for the Best Tourism Villages pilot project in 2021 
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina submitted 3 applications for BTV 2022, Krupa na Vrbasu entered Upgraded programe

Innovation and Digital Transformation

(Match: Digitalization and Innovation are listed as top issues in the RDEU survey 2020)

  • Introduce the innovation hubs network worldwide
  • Smart Destinations and Capacity Building: a focus on improving the sustainability, accessibility, governance and quality of destinations through the use of new technologies and innovations.
  • Ogranization of UNWO/Amadeus Masterclass: Possibility to organize a Masterclass on the analysis of data for better tourism decision making
  • Attraction of foreign investment (Match:One of the key priorities is to attract foreign private investments, in particular in tourism) 
    • UNWTO can support Albania in organisation of Global Tourism Investment forum 
    • UNWTO can provide UNWTO Investment guidelines tailored for them. 
    • UNWTO & fDi intelligence from the Financial Times - UNWTO Members can have a limited access to world-class digital investment platforms at no cost 

Attraction of Foreign Investment

(Match: : One of the key priorities is to attract foreign private investments, in particular in tourism)
