The Regional Programme for the Middle East has the honour to announce that a series of events, under the title of Connecting people and cultures through Tourism in the Mediterranean region, were held in Beirut, Lebanon, on 29 and 30 May 2016.
These events, jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism of Lebanon and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), included a Roundtable on Religious Tourism and the 2nd meeting of the Working Group on the Phoencians' Route Cultural Tourism Programme.
These meetings brought together Ministers of Tourism, industry leaders in the MENA region, together with a number of international, regional and local experts and stakeholders, to explore ways and means of seizing emerging opportunities for increased cooperation in tourism development and promotion in the region, particularly with respect to the development of cultural and religious tourism.
