First UNWTO International Conference on Spiritual Tourism for Sustainable Development

Jointly organized by UNWTO and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, the First UNWTO International Conference on Spiritual Tourism for Sustainable Development explored ways in which living culture, traditions and beliefs can be integrated into tourism while respecting the cultural, social, environmental and economic pillars of sustainability. Over the course of four sessions, eminent speakers from the public and private sectors examined the numerous interpretations of spiritual tourism, its role in enhancing cultural exchange and mutual understanding, its ability to advance sustainability through inclusive development and responsible management, and the complexities of matching demand with a destination’s tourism offer. In addition, the conference showcased good practices and successful examples of spiritual tourism development.
