Tourism is playing an increasingly important role in the life of societies. Its impact in social and economic terms is undeniable, but furthermore it also helps reinforce the dialogue among civilizations. Its rise has brought with it challenges that entail addressing issues such as sustainability and the preservation of natural resources as well as respect for the way of life of societies and their deepest cultural values, and most of all the fight against the exploitation of human beings. The main purpose of this publication, which reflects the discussions of the Second International Congress on Ethics and Tourism, is to contribute to the definition of the ethical framework in which tourism should be developed in the coming years in order to strengthen its role in the development of societies. This publication contains texts in English and Spanish.

El turismo está teniendo un papel cada vez más importante en la vida de las sociedades. Su impacto tanto desde el punto de vista social como económico es innegable, pero además contribuye a fortalecer el diálogo entre las civilizaciones. Su ascenso ha traído consigo retos que deben considerar la sostenibilidad, la conservación de los recursos naturales, el respeto a la forma de vida de las sociedades y a sus valores culturales más profundos, pero sobre todo la lucha contra la explotación de los seres humanos. El objetivo central de esta publicación que refleja las discusiones del II Congreso internacional de ética y turismo es el de contribuir a definir el marco ético en el que debe desarrollarse el turismo en los años por venir para reforzar su papel en el desarrollo de las sociedades.
