MADEIRA’S TOURISM RETURNS TO NORMALITY
Madeira’s tourism activity is now returning to normality. This, after a rough night for several hotels in Funchal and Calheta.
Teams from the Tourism Regional Directorate and from the Madeira Promotion Association were, since the very first moment and all night long, in the field, to monitor some tourists who had to be evacuated from their hotel units, and trying to minimize the impact of all this situation. A presence that was reinforced by several volunteers and hotel representatives who insisted joining this support to displaced people in a wave of unprecedented solidarity that has been well accepted and praised by visitors.
At this time, the tourists that had to be evacuated, in most cases by precaution, have returned to their hotel units, and this situation should be completely normalized by this afternoon.
The atmosphere in Funchal is of normality and serenity, and we can see that many tourists chose to carry through different programs, including some excursions, boat trips and sightseeing in the city center of Funchal.
It is important to note that whether the airport and the port operation are normalized, with a fully operational infrastructure.
It is also important to note that, in close collaboration with Tourism of Portugal, which was felt from the very first moment, is already active a support and information phone line (351 211140200), which works from 9 am to 7 pm.
