UNWTO is deeply shocked by the tragic attack perpetrated at the French magazine Charlie Hebdo. On behalf of the international tourism community, UNWTO conveys its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

"As stated by UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, this is an attack against freedom of expression and freedom of the press - the two pillars of democracy”, said UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai. “We express our full solidarity with the Government and people of France and join the call of the international community to stand strong for freedom of expression and tolerance”, he added.
