2013 UNWTO Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner
Since 2003, the UNWTO Awards for Excellence and Innovation in Tourism have honored tourism initiatives that have contributed to the advancement of tourism through knowledge creation and innovation, in line with the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
In the previous 2013 edition of the Awards, celebrated for the first time with the International Tourism Trade Fair - FITUR in Madrid, UNWTO presented the UNWTO Ulysses Prize and UNWTO Lifetime Achievement Laureates and unveiled the winners and runner-ups for each of the specific tourism initiative categories. UNWTO Knowledge Network Symposium
Subsequent to the UNWTO Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner, the UNWTO Knowledge Network Symposium took place on January 23. The Symposium is held to highlight best theories and practices showcased by winners of the UNWTO Awards in different categories. The Symposium includes keynote speeches by the UNWTO Ulysses Prize and the Lifetime Achievement laureates, presentations by the awardees and a high level panel discussion on the current status of knowledge management in tourism and how to improve knowledge flows within the tourism community, therefore bridging theory and practice.
