29th meeting of the World Tourism Network on Child Protection
The World Tourism Network on Child Protection (formerly the Task Force for the Protection of Children in Tourism) will convene for its 29th meeting at ITB Berlin on 7 March 2014. This open-ended Network features the multi-stakeholder participation of a range of actors, from governments, international organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), to tourism industry groups and media associations. The Network’s mandate covers the prevention of all potential forms of exploitation of children and young people within the tourism sector (i.e. sexual exploitation, child labour and trafficking, etc.).
The body’s 2014 gathering will have a central focus on “Media Partnerships for the Protection of Children in Travel and Tourism”, to be tackled in a special panel followed by an open debate. It will also feature, as usual, a reporting session, which will serve as a platform for tourism stakeholders to exchange experiences and good practices, present awareness-raising materials and capacity building tools, and promote the adoption of professional codes of conduct or other responsible practices in line with the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism.
