Ministerial Meeting on Mega Events for Sustainable Tourism Development
A Ministerial Meeting on Mega Events for Sustainable Tourism Development took place in Sochi, Krasnodar Territory, Russian Federation on 16-17 June 2014. The event was co-organized by the Federal Agency for Tourism of the Russian Federation and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) aimed at discussing the challenges and opportunities of tourism destinations for hosting mega events.
Being one of the fastest-growing segments of the global tourism industry, mega events can play a key role in the development of tourism destinations, helping to improve their image, opening new tourism markets, diversifying the product offer, encouraging and fostering job creation and socio-economic development.
The Ministers in charge of tourism and the international experts participated in the following panel discussions:
1. How to optimize the economic and social impacts of mega events on tourism destinations?
2. Legacy of mega events: How to best develop destination brands and effective marketing strategies?
3. Strategic partnerships for the effective planning and development of mega events.
4. How service quality and the trained workforce ensure the success of mega events?
