UNWTO strongly condemns bombing in Morocco
PR No.: PR11037
UNWTO is deeply shocked by the bomb attack at the Argana cafe in Djemaa el-Fna square in Marrakesh, Morocco. On behalf of the international tourism community, UNWTO has conveyed its heartfelt sympathy to the Government of Morocco and its commitment to help in any way considered appropriate.
“Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims”, said UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai. “I am appalled by this act of violence and wish to convey the full support of UNWTO to Morocco.”
UNWTO trusts this cruel incident will not deter all those who wish to visit Morocco and that tourism, a critical sector to the country, will continue to thrive as it has been doing in recent years.
This isolated attack should not affect one of the consistently most well-known and stable tourism destinations in Northern Africa.
