Governance


Under the auspices of the UN Tourism Committee on Statistics, the development of the Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism was led by the Expert Group on MST with the technical guidance of the Editorial Board on MST.

UN Tourism Committee on Statistics

The Committee is a subsidiary advisory body of the Executive Council. As such, it contributes to the fulfilment of Article 13, paragraph 3 of the Agreement signed between the United Nations and UN Tourism, which states: “The United Nations recognizes the World Tourism Organization as the appropriate organization to collect, to analyze, to publish, to standardize and to improve the statistics of tourism, and to promote the integration of these statistics within the sphere of the United Nations system”.

  • Co-Vice-Chairs (period 2019-2023): Saudi Arabia, Ministry of Tourism -  Seychelles, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism

Expert Group on MST

UN Tourism, in partnership with leading countries, the International Labour Organization and the United Nations Statistics Division, created a multidisciplinary and multi-stakeholder Expert Group on Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism to lead the development of a Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism

The framework supports a more harmonized and integrated measurement of the impacts and dependencies of tourism on the economy, society and the environment, at both the national and sub-national levels.

 

Editorial Board

The MST Editorial Board aims to provide guidance in terms of management of the Statistical Framework for MST drafting and consultation process. The MST Editorial Board is composed of a limited number of countries as well as regional and international organizations that have been playing a major role in the MST project.
