One Planet - Sustainable Tourism: Annual Report to ECOSOC
The Annual One Planet network report to ECOSOC 2019 was released in April 2019 and it is based on the Sustainable Tourism Programme’s Progress Report 2018.
"Activities reported in 2018 indicate an initial shift to outcome-oriented activities, signalling progress towards the effective implementation and use of the resources, tools, and solutions, resulting in concrete changes in practices. Activities reported at the outcome level increased to 28%, from the previous 16% for the 2013-2017 period. It is important to note that this increase is driven by the Sustainable Tourism programme and is not a reflection of a generalised trend across the whole network."
"The adoption of the reported new or improved practices has overwhelmingly been led by businesses, representing 82% of the total changes across the network, more specifically by businesses in the tourism sector which make up 76% of the total. Businesses play a key role in the shift to SCP by spearheading innovation and the implementation of new technologies, and have been prioritised in the strategy as a crucial stakeholder in identifying transformative new solutions."
"The adoption of these new or improved practices has overwhelmingly been led by businesses in the tourism sector, accounting for 76% of the total changes reported across the network. This seems aligned with the fact that the Sustainable Tourism programme has the highest number of businesses in the network, showing that a strengthened engagement of the business sector enables the identification and implementation of tangible solutions."
