UN Tourism Online Education Committee

It was established in 2020, following the remarkable growth of educational initiatives UN Tourism was leading and its pivotal role in contributing to the strengthening of the tourism sector, fostering human capital development worldwide. This Committee, as a subsidiary organ of the Executive Council, is focused on providing recommendations and assistance to the Executive Council and the Secretariat related to education.

This committee is a subsidiary organ of the Executive Council. The main objective is to provide the Executive Council and the Secretary General with advice and recommendations on education matters.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Examining, prior to the submission to the Council, all documents in relation to educational  matters within the programme of work of the Organization, as prepared by the Secretary-  General;
  2. Monitoring the implementation of the educational program of work;
  3. Ensuring that the content of the UN Tourism Online Academy aligns with the priorities;
  4. Making recommendations to the Secretary-General on the alocation of Scholarships;
  5. Monitoring the management, content and communications strategy of the platform;
  6. Advising on and approving the strategy to scale up the education programs such as the UN Tourism Online Academy with Prospect Partners.

COMPOSITION:

  • 9 Member States: 2 from Europe, 2 from Africa, 2 from America,1 from East Asia and the Pacifics,1 from South Asia,1 from the Middle East.

  • 1Affiliate Member
  • Invited participants, as proposedby the Secretary-General, in coordination with the Chair of the  Committee, foreach Committee, on an ad hoc basis, according to the agenda of one ormore  specific meeting(s) wil participate in the work of the Committee. Those invited participants may  be:
    • The IE University as a founding partner of  the Tourism Online Academy;
    • Representation from five universities which are playing an active and relevant role  in the  UN Tourism Online Academy;
    •  International organizations;
    • Public sector, private sector and civil society entities,including educational  institutions, destination management organizations (DMOs).
    • Individual experts (e.g. researchers, personalities).
