Tourism Cares: Unite for a Cleaner Cyprus
The initiative calls on hotels, resorts, restaurants, and other tourism businesses to organize beach or public area cleanups, involving both their guests and staff, to reduce litter and raise awareness about the importance of sustainability in tourism. With the growing awareness of environmental challenges, this large-scale cleanup aims to inspire lasting change by reducing the impact of littering on our beautiful coastal areas.
The "Tourism Cares: Unite for a Cleaner Cyprus" campaign is a significant cleanup effort aimed at mobilizing tourism businesses across Cyprus. It is co-organized by TUI, the TUI Care Foundation, and the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) as part of the “Keep our Sand and Sea Plastic Free” Project. Under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and endorsed by the Commissioner for the Environment, the initiative is supported by key tourism organizations, including the Cyprus Hotel Association (PASYXE), the Association of Cyprus Tourist Enterprises (STEK), the Cyprus Hotel Managers Association (PASYDIXE), and the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents (ACTA). This event celebrates the World Tourism Day (September 27, 2024) 3 days in advance. The tourism community of Cyprus has shown impressive engagement, signaling that the island’s tourism industry is not only thriving but also deeply invested in creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
With almost 60 registered cleanup events confirmed, this campaign is mobilizing tourism businesses across Cyprus to take action against plastic pollution and littering, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability within the tourism sector.

The “Keep our Sand and Sea Plastic Free” project is part of the TUI Care Foundation’s Destination Zero Waste Programme in partnership with the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI). It focuses on reducing single-use plastics in Cyprus's coastal areas.
