Kobe University is one of the national universities in Japan. The University was originally established as Kobe Higher Commercial School in 1902. Since then, the University has aimed to produce leading business figures in the Japanese business community. After the World War II, Kobe University was established in 1949 as Kobe Higher Commercial School merged with Hyogo Normal School, Hyogo Junior Normal School, Kobe Technical College and Himeji High School. Kobe University includes 10 faculties and schools, 15 graduate schools and a number of research centers and institutions. Kobe University promotes a variety of research and education to become a research university in the world. Among others, Kobe University has put priority on making regional partnerships with local governments, non-profit organizations and business community in the Kansai region since 2003. Over the last few years, the University is making an effort to strengthen regional partnerships in terms of inbound tourism in Kansai. The school of global human sciences and the graduate school of intercultural studies in particular are cooperating with a local DMO at Miyama in Kyoto prefecture, that is known among the Japanese people as a beautiful, traditional village with thatched houses.
