Activity overview:

• The main objective of the Starlight Foundation is providing the means of knowledge and promote actions for the valorisation of starlight as a scientific, tourist, cultural and environmental resource. The Starlight Initiative is a worldwide action and it is supported by UNESCO and more than 40 international scientific organizations and institutions.

Specializations, Areas & Projects:

• Development of a certification on Starlight Tourist Destinations
• Preservation of excellent areas: “The Windows to the Universe "
• Developing research and promotion programs in the major related areas of knowledge: archeo-astronomical and astronomical heritage, skyscapes, biodiversity at night and dissemination of astronomy.
• Providing methodology and tools for the valorization of resources related with starlight and the knowledge of astronomy.
• Providing preventive tools and technical criteria for the control of light pollution as a key factor in the degradation of resources related to starlight, in saving energy and combating climate change.

Strategic vision:

• Strengthen the visibility and potential of starlight tourism at international level.
• Establish effective partnerships between scientific institutions and private and public stakeholders to conceive, design and promote starlight tourist destinations.
• Provide the first experiences of a new dimension of tourism in which science is the key resource.
