Topic: “Tourism as a Catalyst for Global Peace: Bridging Cultures and Building Understanding”
The Joji Ilagan International Schools – International Management School in Davao City, Philippines, proudly celebrates its tenth (10th) year of observing World Tourism Day in line with the annual theme set by the UNWTO. This year’s WTD 2024, with the theme “Tourism and Peace,” highlights the transformative role that tourism plays in fostering global understanding, harmony, and peace.
In line with this, The Voluptuaria Organization of Joji Ilagan International Schools has curated a series of events and competitions that reflect this theme. These activities aim to inspire young tourism professionals, alongside industry experts in our country and city, to reflect on how tourism can be a catalyst for peace and a bridge to unity, despite the challenges the industry faces.
Key events include a Focused Group Discussion, where a national tourism industry expert will be invited to speak and present on the theme. Also part of our celebration is the 5th Global Tourism Student Summit, where we will invite international tourism students from various schools and countries to serve as student speakers, presenting topics from their country’s perspective in alignment with the theme.
Additionally, the institution has organized competitions such as:
GeorgiART: Visual Storytelling (canvas painting), Tranquil Vlogging: Vlog Your Peace, Share Your Vision, Debate, Harmony in Motion: Cultural Dance Competition, The Cultural Elegance Runway 2024: Runway to Peace, and Georgia Showcase: Booth-Making Contest, where students will showcase their talents and promote peace through tourism.
These events and competitions emphasize the important role of tourism and its key players, focusing on an international perspective and highlighting the need for targeted investments in people, the planet, and prosperity. By participating in these activities, individuals can contribute to building stronger connections and fostering a more harmonious world.
